Workshop Coffee Co. – Fitzrovia, London
Stop five on my journey took me to the suitably extravagant Workshop Coffee Co. located in Fitzrovia
This beautifully designed building takes inspiration from the surrounding neighborhood’s 19th Century British heritage with its Victorian Bohemia design, which works a treat, with its traditional yet sophisticated and almost avant-garde feel.
The interior of the shop is lavishly adorned with Madagascan marble which looks fantastic with its green and blue highlights, and the whole coffee bar area really feels like your visiting somewhere special. The frontage of Workshop is a small standing room only area filled for the most part by a generous selection of cakes and pastries in a glass and bronze display area, and a large La Marzocco Linea PB espresso machine.
There is also a small corner display selling a selection of Workshops branded coffee beans and brewing equipment.
behind the coffee bar area though is a small seating area which is almost hidden away on first sight, this has a very relaxed and comfortable feel whilst still following the sophisticated and upmarket vibe of the rest of the shop; mirror granite along the walls with plush wall to wall seating and individual granite and bronze tables greet you when stepping further in.
There is also a downstairs area which Workshop uses for barista training and competitions, for which I believe they are also hosting the upcoming Aeropress championships 2015.
The staff, dressed in smart denim aprons have a very friendly and outgoing attitude and were extremely passionate about their work, giving us a thorough run-down of the beans they use, the processes and even recommending other local coffee shops which was refreshing to hear.
